Helmet Design with Joseph Drust

Here is a model I created in Zbrush following a tutorial by Joseph Drust on Pixologic's website. First time hard surface modelling in Zbrush, which can be quite difficult at times. Overall I learned a lot of techniques and its a great tutorial for anyone willing to learn the program.
Here is a turntable of the model out of Zbrush.

The final render out of Maya, with lights and volumetric scattering.

A screen capture of the model within Zbrush.

How to Train your Dragon Water Creature

A Zbrush project of a water creature in the style of How to Train your Dragon. It was quite the fun project. Modeled in Zbrush and rendered and lit in Maya.

Current Life Drawing Portfolio

Here is my current life drawing portfolio. Will try to go to life drawing more often in hopes of getting some better pieces. These range from 1 min to 10.

First 3D LipSync

Here's the first animation project of the new year, and first 3D lipsync. It turned out alright, animation can be quite the difficult craft. The line is from Men in Black.

Zbrush Head Sculpt

Here's a Zbrush self portrait sculpt. First time using this program, its very strange to start out in. The interface is totally weird, but after figuring it all out its quite powerful. These heads were sculpted in Zbrush, textured in Photoshop and rendered and lit in Maya. There's a turntable of the Zbrush sculpt and the bottom two are more caricatured versions.

Christmas Lighting

So here is the latest lighting assignment. Well technically it was a test, but ended up taking over 12 hours to complete in one night... Basically a 12 hour test. I didn't model any of the stuff, just textured and lit it.

NURBS Trumpet

Here's a trumpet made using NURBS. As wierd as NURBS were at first to understand, they can make some really cool looking things. Gonna have to practice some more!

Xgen Grass

Just fooling around in Maya's Xgen simulator, basically a tool used to create realistic hair, grass etc.  This grass seems quite thick... I'm sure a large body of water is nearby.

A Walk and a Dive

Here are the most recent 3D animations. A walk and a dive, 3D animation is much different then traditional, but the principles for the most part remain the same. I heard that 3D makes the easy stuff in 2D hard and the hard stuff in 2D easy. So far that seems true.

Some Drawings of Things

Some sketches and a few life drawings. Haven't been drawing nearly as much now that everything is in 3D land.

First Time 3D Land

So this year we go full 3D, which will be interesting indeed. It's almost like I'm studying animation math, if that's a thing. Right now its mainly all technical, interface things, so nothing special yet has been taught. Here is a descending energy ball bounce I made. Its not a school project, but I tried to incorporate most of things I've learnt so far. lights, camera, materials. etc. I just threw the textures in the background, they don't look so good, with the sharp change from floor to wall. This was mainly just a test to see how I could render the thing out.

New Year, New Life Drawings

So here are a few life drawings I did after not life drawing all summer. Real fun to get back into it, that's for sure. Since this year is all 3D now, life drawing will be the only class with traditional drawing. Gonna be strange but good, since 3D so far is interesting stuff. These drawings range from 1 min to 5 mins.

World of Warcraft Orc

Here is a world of Warcraft Orc. I used to play back in highschool, and it was a pretty fun time. This was quite the cool painting experience. As he would say: "Zub-Grub!"

Painted Version, done in Photoshop.

Line Art, done in pencil on paper.

Virtual Plein Airs

So these are from May, my computer died and what not... so I was absent from Photoshop for a while, but eventually got a new PC, and thus can post these. They are from various places on Earth using what is called virtual plein air. Basically paint a location using Google street view. I'm not too good at location paintings, so these aren't too strong, but I think they helped me learn some things. Plus its a lot harder with only one monitor, flipping back and forth. I will have to do more of these to study locations.

Italy

First Fanart - Samus

So recently I decided to do fanart... which I have never done before. I chose to do Samus, my Smash Bros. character, and I think it turned out alright. The bottom one is what happened after I desaturated the image and forgot I had only one layer selected... and it ended up looking real cool. I'm gonna have to try my hand at some more characters!
